Description
Students will be able to distinguish between alkanes, alkenes and alkynes, and get to know their composition, chemical properties and usage. Linguistic aims: - students will be able to understand spoken and written English - students will be able to understand the content - to master tools for gathering information - to express understanding and experiences - students will be able to understand the topic correctly - students will be able to translate words connected with between alkanes, alkenes and alkynes from English into the mother tongue, and vice versa. Subject specific aims: - students will be able to recognise the chemical composition of alkanes, alkenes and alkynes and the similarities and differences between them - students will be able to draw the structure of hydrocarbon compounds - students will know the use of hydrocarbon compounds in various chemicals Target group age: Students who start studying chemistry in primary school (14-15 years old). Level of competence in English (CEFR) B1 Time required to use the resource with the students: The material can be divided into a series of 7 lessons. The teachers can choose which materials to use. As a result, the resources can used during the lesson with the students or the students can use it for self-study. How to use it: The material can be used as a revision of the topic of “Hydrocarbons – comparison of alkanes, alkenes & alkynes”. Students can watch it before the test or revision lesson in order to practice their knowledge. After watching the videos, the students can use a few interactive quizzes, which will allow them to make sure they have grasped the most important concepts of the topic. Possible difficulties for the students The website requires registration, which is free, but it might discourage some users.
