Please describe the teaching resource taking into consideration the: • General aims: This resource features a diagram of the Biogeochemical Cycle of Carbon. Students are given twenty keywords from the video on the topic and asked to label the diagram with the keywords. • Linguistic aims: to review the keywords from the video lesson and to reinforce the terminology. To distinguish between the different processes. • Subject specific aims: to reinforce the different elements of the carbon (dioxide) cycle and the processes by which the carbon (dioxide) is recycled. • Target group age: 12 – 16 years • Level of competence in English (CEFR): B1 • Time needed to be used with the students: students could complete this task in a short class period. It could also be a homework exercise. • How to use it: the interactive activity can be completed on-line. There is also a printable handout that students could use to add to their word lists, or to tick off the words as they learn them. The keywords could also be used for an expanded task like saying the keyword and then using it in a sentence, or paired/multiplayer activities where they take turns to locate the keyword and get their team mate(s) to say a sentence. • Possible difficulties for the students: the difficulty could be that there are some terms that can be used in different places. Students should also be able to link this topic with what they learned about the Greenhouse Effect.
