Students will learn about the greenhouse effect, its causes and possible solutions. By watching the video and completing the tasks based on the video, students will also improve their listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. This will help to develop their peer assisted and self–directed learning skills.

Description
General aims of this video are to introduce and explain the phenomenon of the greenhouse effect, to explain its causes, to point out the consequences of a warming planet and to provide solutions to the problem. Linguistic aims: - to practice reading skills, - to expand active vocabulary, - to expand topic related vocabulary, - to improve speaking skills, - to improve writing skills. Subject specific aims: - to explain what the greenhouse effect is, - to explain its causes, - to point out the consequences of a warming planet, - to provide solutions to the problem. Target group age: 14 – 18 years old secondary school students. Level of competence in English is (CEFR) B1/B1+. Time required to use the source with students: 45 minutes. By watching the video students and will learn/revise what the greenhouse effect is, what its causes and possible solutions are. Students will revise the topic related vocabulary (emit, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, release, landfills, fossil fuels, fertilisers, glaciers, absorb) will be able to translate key words and use them while talking about causes of greenhouse effect the ways of solving the problem. Students will not only practise the vocabulary but will also revise the tenses (present simple, present continuous and present perfect continuous). Target groups are 13 – 14 years old secondary school students. Level of competence in English (CEFR) A2/B1. While watching the video students make notes and prepare questions for their peers about the topic. Working in pairs students will ask each other questions they wrote in their notes and will answer their peer’s questions. Students should be able to answer the questions: What is the greenhouse effect? What causes the global warming? Why the heat from the sun is trapped in the atmosphere? What are the negative effects of global warming on the planet? What extreme weather events are caused by climate change? What can we do reduce the amount of greenhouse gases and stop global warming? What are the 3R’s? Students can also participate in a discussion about how everybody can contribute to reducing the emission of greenhouse gases. After having completed watching, listening, reading and speaking exercises, students can reflect what they have learned by working individually and writing a paragraph. Possible difficulties for students. Students who have poor knowledge of English may have difficulties making notes while watching a video. It would be a good idea to prepare a printed script for those students.
