Students will learn about greenhouse effect, its causes and possible solutions. The article provided will help students to better understand where greenhouse gases come from. Teaching material will help students to develop self-motivation, collaborative learning, problem-solving and self-directed, independent learning skills.

Description
The general aims of this lesson are: - to deepen students’ knowledge on the greenhouse effect, - to improve the English language skills. Linguistic aims: - to practice reading skills, - to expand active vocabulary, - to expand topic related vocabulary, - to improve speaking skills, - to improve writing skills. Subject specific aims: - to explain what the greenhouse effect is, - to understand what causes the greenhouse effect, - to find out how greenhouse gases worm our planet, - to find out what five major greenhouse gases are, - to find out where greenhouse gases come from, - to learn more about the greenhouse effect solutions. Target group age: 14 – 18 years old secondary school students. Level of competence in English is (CEFR) B1/B1+. Time required to use the source with students: 45 minutes. How to use it Students read the text and translate unknown words into their native language using dictionaries or asking teacher for help and write them down into their notes. While reading the text students will deepen their knowledge on the greenhouse effect, learn more about five major greenhouse gases and where they come from is, will learn more about possible solutions. Students will not only revise, but also expand the topic related vocabulary and will be able to translate key words and use them while talking about causes of greenhouse effect the ways of solving the problem. students should be able to explain what they see on the screen and answer the questions: What is the greenhouse effect? What causes the global warming? Why the heat from the sun is trapped in the atmosphere? What are the negative effects of global warming on the planet? What extreme weather events are caused by climate change? What can we do reduce the amount of greenhouse gases and stop global warming? Students can also participate in a discussion about how everybody can contribute to reducing the emission of greenhouse gases. After having completed reading and speaking exercises, students can reflect what they have learned by working individually and writing a paragraph. Possible difficulties for students. Students who have poor knowledge of English may have difficulties understanding the text and participating in the discussion.
