Description
General aims Students will be able to explain the phenomenon. They will acquire the basic English vocabulary connected with the topic (gravity). Students will develop positive learning habits such as organisational and problem-solving skills. Linguistic aims Students will be able to: - read English texts with ease - reflect on their reading experience and share it with their peers - get the main ideas from a text - comprehend the topic correctly - translate words connected with the topic (gravity) from English into their mother tongue. Subject specific aims Students will be able to: - explain the phenomenon Target groups age: Students from high school 16-18+ years old. Level of competence in English (CEFR) B1+/B2 Time required to use the resource with the students: 1 hour • How to use it Students read the text at the following link: https://scienceprimer.com/gravitational-acceleration and in pairs write down the main idea presented in the text. Teacher checks with the whole class and they also review unknown vocabulary and grammar structures. Then they watch the video which explores the relationship between distance traveled and velocity of objects under different rates of constant acceleration due to gravity. After watching the video, students are asked to work in pairs to create five questions about the video for their peers. To test the understanding of the concepts covered by the video the teacher asks students to do the time distance and acceleration practice problems (https://scienceprimer.com/time-distance-acceleration-qs). After watching the video, students brainstorm new vocabulary used in the video and note the context and the meaning of the words. For homework, the teacher asks students to find other videos related to the topic. • Possible difficulties for the students Students who have poor knowledge of English can have problems with understanding the content.
