Description
The ability to solve word searches involves several skills. The main reason for using them in our context is to reinforce vocabulary and to develop skills in recognising words.
They are useful at an elementary level and could be a way of triggering discussions of the meanings of glossary terms. The exercise could be gamified in several ways, encouraging development of speed at word recognition through the competitive interactive element at the link to Wordwall.
The target age group would be typically elementary but the specific words mean the topic would have to have been studied ahead of using the word search.
The time required is short - only a segment of one class period.
Possible difficulties could arise for students with dyslexia diagnoses.
