Students will develop observing skills, measuring skills, analytical skills, critical thinking skills.
The course consists of reading, watching, practise activities in order to describe the structure of alkenes and alkynes and give examples of each class of compounds.
General aim is to define alkene and alkyne, to draw structures of common alkenes and alkynes
Subject specific aim:
• Examine the bonding and structural differences of organic compounds: • alkanes • alkenes • alkynes • aromatic hydrocarbons • cyclic hydrocarbons
• Describe the functional groups in organic chemistry
• Students know the system for naming the ten simplest linear hydrocarbons and isomers that contain single bonds, simple hydrocarbons with double and triple bonds, and simple molecules that contain a benzene ring.

- students will be able to translate words connected with between alkenes and alkynes from English into the mother tongue, and vice versa.
This task is aimed at students of 14-17 years old.

How to use it:
The material can be used by teacher in the lesson to the topic of “Hydrocarbons – comparison of alkanes, alkenes & alkynes” or it can be a tool for self-directed learning at home.
After and reading the text and watching the videos, there is an practice quiz, which can be done to make sure students have grasped the most important concepts of the topic.
After the quiz there is real world example (alkyne-acetylene) to expand student’s knowledge.
Possible difficulties for the students: students who have poor knowledge of English may have difficulties to understand the content.
