They will acquire the basic English vocabulary connected with the topic (photosynthesis). Students will develop positive learning habits such as organisational and analytical skills.

Target groups age:
Students from high school 16-18+ years old. What is more, this web site can be used by anyone who wants to do extend knowledge about light/dark/ photosynthesis.

How to use it
Teacher introduces the topic and revises the photosynthesis process with students. Teacher tells students about an interesting experiment they can also carry out which highlights the role that light has in this process.
Students are set into pairs or groups. They have to watch the video and put the stages of the experiment in the right order (the right order: explaining what the students have to do; preparing the piles of leaf disks; preparing the solution for the leaves; loading the leaf disks into a syringe; preparing the syringe; transferring the content of the syringe into a plastic cup; checking the sunken leaves in the cups and preparing the cups; placing them in light and dark conditions). At min 6 teacher interrupts the video and asks students why the leaves start floating when they are in the light condition. After listening to several explanations, teacher plays the video and invites students to find out the answer. Students can do the experiment themselves as a follow up and present it to another class of students.
Possible difficulties for the students
Students who have poor knowledge of English can have problems with understanding the content.
Using videos in class makes learning easier and more engaging for students. With the help from videos the outside world is brought into the classroom and abstract concepts become more concrete and therefore more comprehensible. The resource is visually appealing to students as it presents an interesting experiment to students. The video is scientifically reliable and can be recommended to students.
