How to use it
The teacher prepares a list of words (not more than 15): some of the words are related to the topic and others are not (door, windows, sofa, roof, square, armchair, edge, glue, park, shoe box, shape, removable, paper, bottom, top). The teacher presents the topic: Making a Cardboard Model House. The teacher asks students to go through the list and underline the words they think are related to the text. The teacher sets a time limit; then s/he asks students to read the text and checks with the whole class and solves any open questions (unknown expressions) with the whole class. Students should be encouraged to provide the answers. The teachers aks students to build the house following the steps given in the text.
• Possible difficulties for the students
Students who have poor knowledge of English can have problems with understanding the content. The teacher should revise the verbs needed in this context (use, close, cut, reach, draw, leave, glue, set in place).
