Video Lesson: Lenses: Way of light through lenses

Video Lesson

Subject
Physics

Description of the video lesson
In this lesson the passage of light rays through convex and concave lenses is presented.
The effect of the lenses on the light rays is discussed.
The refraction of light as it passes through different media is shown.
The human eye lens is also considered.

Level of English
Basic English vocabulary and grammar.

Pre-requisites
For language the students should have the non-technical language.
For content the students should know that light travels in rays and that the direction depends on the media it is passing through.

Language aims
Language Skills: Listening, watching, speaking
Grammar: Present simple tense Vocabulary:
Nouns: light, rays, lens, lenses, convex, concave, refraction
Verbs: travel, focus, magnify

Subject aims
The subject aims are that students should be able to describe how light travels in straight lines and that this mechanism changes depending on the medium that the light is passing through.
They should understand the difference between convex and concave lenses.
They should be able to link what they have learned in the physics to the biology of the eye.

Students' Difficulties
Light is an important physical feature but again it is invisible so the concept of light travelling is abstract for some students.

Students' Skills
Students should improve their English language skills but also their scientific knowledge of the topic.
They should be able to reinforce the learning by carrying out simple experiments at various pause points in the video.
